Ludwigsburg's Forum am Schlosspark to close for years amid urgent renovations
Ludwigsburg's Forum am Schlosspark, a cultural landmark for almost 40 years, faces major changes. The city plans a lengthy closure for renovations, starting in mid-2027. Meanwhile, a temporary program called Zwischenspiel will launch in October 2027 at alternative venues.
The Forum's decline in infrastructure has forced action. Its technical systems and piping are outdated, with spare parts no longer available. Fire safety also fails to meet current regulations, leaving the venue operating under a temporary permit.
City officials will propose planning resolutions on March 11, 2026, with a final vote scheduled for April 29, 2026. If approved, the Forum will shut its doors on July 31, 2027—later than the initial end-of-2026 plan. The closure could last until late 2032. Before then, the venue will host its final season, including the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival. However, budget cuts have reduced funding for the last season and *Zwischenspiel* to €700,000, down from €1.03 million. The interim program will run at other city locations while renovations take place.
The Forum's extended closure aims to modernise its facilities and ensure compliance with safety standards. Until its potential reopening in 2032, cultural events will shift to temporary spaces under the Zwischenspiel initiative. The city council's upcoming discussions will determine the next steps for this protected monument.
