Lufthansa pilots' strike grounds Stuttgart Airport flights for two days
A two-day strike by Lufthansa pilots will disrupt flights at Stuttgart Airport this week. The walkout, organised by the pilots' union Cockpit, begins on Thursday and continues through Friday. Travellers in Baden-Württemberg's largest airport should expect delays and cancellations as a result.
The union, Vereinigung Cockpit, announced the strike after negotiations with Lufthansa management broke down. The key issue involves occupational pension provisions, which the airline has refused to improve further. Management argues that current benefits already exceed industry standards and that tight profit margins at Lufthansa Classic limit additional spending.
Lufthansa did propose a separate offer for Lufthansa CityLine, including salary increases and a peace clause until 2027. However, the union dismissed this as inadequate. The strike will impact Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo, and Lufthansa CityLine operations.
To reduce disruption, the airline plans to release a special flight schedule by Wednesday afternoon. This revised timetable aims to help passengers adjust their travel plans before the strike begins on March 12.
The strike will halt flights at Stuttgart Airport for two days, affecting thousands of passengers. Lufthansa has ruled out further pension concessions, leaving little room for immediate resolution. Travellers are advised to check the updated schedule before heading to the airport.
