Lufthansa Announces New Supervisory Board Chair

Karl-Ludwig Kley, the current chief supervisor of Lufthansa, is set to step down from his position in 2026, marking the end of a 13-year tenure. Kley has served as chairman of the Lufthansa supervisory board for eight years.

Before joining Lufthansa, Kley held prominent roles, including serving as Lufthansa's chief financial officer and CEO of the Darmstadt-based Merck group. His departure from the supervisory board will pave the way for a new leader.

Initially, Tom Enders, a former CEO of Airbus, was considered as Kley's designated successor. However, Enders resigned his mandate with the Lufthansa annual general meeting this May at his own request.

The search for a new chairman of the Lufthansa supervisory board has been ongoing. It appears that Johannes Teyssen, a familiar face from Kley's earlier days at the energy group, is the expected successor. Teyssen is proposed for election on May 12, 2026, at the Lufthansa Annual General Meeting, and if elected, he will assume the chairmanship afterwards.

The new manager's election to the Lufthansa supervisory board is scheduled for the same date, May 12, 2026. With Teyssen's proposed election, he is expected to become the head of the Lufthansa supervisory body.

It's worth noting that Kley served as chairman of the supervisory board at Eon until 2023. His extensive experience in leadership roles will undoubtedly prove valuable as he hands over the reins to Teyssen.

This transition marks an exciting new chapter for Lufthansa, and we look forward to seeing how the airline continues to thrive under its new leadership.
