Lüneburg District launches free political workshop for migrant youth
Lüneburg District is organising a free workshop to encourage young people with migration backgrounds to engage in political life. The event, titled Your Voice Matters!, will take place on April 10, 2026, at the Old Education and Integration Office. It is aimed at 14- to 20-year-olds who have had little prior involvement in civic participation. The four-hour session runs from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and requires no prior knowledge. Organisers stress that curiosity and a willingness to take part are all that's needed. Experienced facilitators in civic education will lead the discussions and activities.
The workshop is a joint effort by the State Working Group for Open Child and Youth Welfare in Lower Saxony (LAG) and the State Commissioner for Migration and Participation. Its focus is on showing young people where they can influence decisions in daily life. Topics will include how politics shapes personal experiences and how to make their concerns heard effectively. Attendees will also meet local activists already working in the community. The goal is to provide practical tools for participation while broadening perspectives on political engagement. Young people with migration backgrounds remain underrepresented in such activities, making initiatives like this one particularly important. No public data exists on similar events in other Lower Saxony districts, but organisers hope this workshop will inspire greater involvement among its target group.
The event offers a chance for young participants to explore civic engagement in a supportive setting. By connecting them with resources and like-minded peers, the workshop aims to build confidence in political participation. Registration details are expected to be released closer to the date.
