Lünen hosts powerful discussion on femicide and women’s safety
A reading and discussion on femicide took place in Lünen on December 1, 2025, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. German journalist and author Julia Cruschwitz presented her book Femicides: The Killing of Women in Germany at the Persiluhr community centre. The event drew around 30 attendees, who engaged with the urgent topic of violence against women.
The evening was organised jointly by Lünen’s Office for Gender Equality and Women’s Affairs, the local adult education centre (Volkshochschule), and the city library. Heike Tatsch, the city’s gender equality officer, hosted and moderated the discussion between Cruschwitz and the audience.
The event concluded with a strong emphasis on the necessity of tackling violence against women. Cruschwitz’s book and the discussion provided a platform for reflection and action. Organisers and participants alike left with a renewed sense of urgency to challenge and prevent such crimes.
