Lünen Hosts Urgent Talk on Germany’s Femicide Crisis with Julia Cruschwitz

Lünen is set to host a significant event on November 25, 2025, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The event, featuring journalist and author Julia Cruschwitz, will delve into the critical issue of femicides in Germany. Cruschwitz will be reading from her 2023 book, 'Femicides: The Killing of Women in Germany', which explores the societal structures and attitudes that often lead to these crimes being downplayed or dismissed. The event will take place at the Persiluhr Meeting Point at Lünen City Library, with entrance via Gartenstraße 4.

In 2023, Germany saw a stark figure of 360 femicide cases, with a significant 68.6 percent being domestic violence-related homicides. This alarming statistic underscores the need for such events to raise awareness and spark conversation. After the reading, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion with Cruschwitz herself. Admission is free, but registration through the Lünen Adult Education Center is requested.

The event, organized by Lünen's Gender Equality Officer Heike Tatsch, aims to highlight that violence against women is a societal issue, not a private matter. It is a call to action, encouraging all to recognize and address the pressing issue of femicides in Germany.
