Lünen Illuminates for International Day to End Violence Against Women
Lünen is set to join the global 'Orange the World' campaign on November 25, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The city and its residents will illuminate buildings and spaces in orange to raise awareness of violence targeting girls and women.
The initiative, led by Heike Tatsch, the city’s Equal Opportunity Commissioner, encourages all residents, businesses, and institutions to participate. Those interested can contact Heike at hkttsch04lnnd or +49 2306 104-1350 to organize a photo tour of orange Lünen.
Lünen has been part of the 'Orange the World' campaign since 2020, with iconic landmarks like the town hall, Heinz-Hilpert-Theater, and Colani UFO being lit in orange. This year, residents are encouraged to use orange lighting, gel sheets, or LED bulbs to show their support.
The campaign aims to highlight the alarming statistics in Germany, where nearly one woman is killed by her current or former partner every day, and domestic violence occurs every three minutes. By participating in 'Orange the World', Lünen stands in solidarity with women and girls worldwide, advocating for a world news breaking news free from violence.
