Madera County Food Bank Receives $25K Lifeline Amid Record Demand
Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria has donated $25,000 to boost the Madera County food bank's efforts during the winter months. The donation comes as the food bank faces an all-time high demand for assistance, with requests surging since late October.
The food bank, in collaboration with the Rotary Club, recently distributed over 700 emergency food boxes to families in need on December 23, 20XX, ensuring a merry Christmas for many. This year, the food bank provided 700 Thanksgiving Food Boxes, up from 500 last year, but still had to turn away some due to high demand.
The recent 43-day government shutdown impacted millions, including those relying on food assistance programs like SNAP. With the government reopening, benefits have resumed for approved recipients, providing some relief. However, the executive director of the Madera County food bank has stated that the overall need remains at an all-time high, indicating that the impact of the shutdown lingers.
Assemblywoman Soria's donation will help the food bank provide more boxes during the winter months, aiding those still struggling due to the shutdown. The food bank continues to urge the community for support to meet the persistent high demand for assistance.
