Madhya Pradesh pension hike hangs in balance as CM holds final say
The Minister for Social Justice, Narayan Singh Kushwah, has clarified that the final decision on increasing social security pension rests with the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister. The proposal to raise the pension from Rs 600 to Rs 1500 is pending with the government.
The last increase in social security pension was in 2019, when it was raised from Rs 300 to Rs 600. Currently, there are 56 lakh beneficiaries in Madhya Pradesh, including elderly people, widows, and divyangjan across six categories. Beneficiaries are now demanding an increase equivalent to the Ladli Behna Yojana sum, which is currently Rs 1500.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government is planning to increase the salary and allowances of MLAs from Rs 1,10,000 to Rs 1,65,000 per month. Before 2016, MLAs used to get a salary and allowance of Rs 71,000 per month.
The finance department has asked to table the proposal to hike social security pension to Rs 1500 from the next financial year. The final call on this matter lies with the Chief Minister.
