Madsack Acquires Nordwest Media Group to Strengthen Regional Journalism by 2026
Madsack media group is set to acquire Nordwest media group in a deal that promises long-term security and growth in regional journalism. The acquisition, effective from January 2026, has been welcomed by NWZ group shareholders, with Stephan von Bothmer expressing their approval. Madsack's chairman, Thomas Duerfft, views this move as a step towards accelerating digitalization and expansion in quality regional journalism.
The acquisition includes the publishing business of daily newspapers such as Nordwest-Zeitung, Emder Zeitung, and Anzeiger for Harlingerland, along with weekly newspapers, digital offerings, printing, logistics, and investments in publishing-related services. Nordwest media group, with an annual turnover of over 120 million euros, reaches nearly 120,000 subscribers and attracts around 5 million monthly visits. Madsack, with its extensive experience, aims to leverage synergies and ensure the long-term success of these publications.
Starting January 2026, Madsack media group will own 100 percent of Nordwest media group's shares. This acquisition, supported by NWZ group shareholders, is expected to strengthen regional journalism by accelerating digitalization and growth. Madsack's expertise will provide long-term security and synergies for the acquired publications.
