Magdeburg’s rail upgrades begin next week with major train disruptions ahead
Magdeburg's rail hub is set for significant upgrades, with modernization work commencing next week. The project, focusing on the overhead lines south of the main station, will cause temporary disruptions to train services.
From Monday to Saturday, crews will work on modernizing the overhead lines south of Magdeburg's main station. The exact names of the crews are not available at this time. This major project is expected to be completed by late 2027, with the northern part slated to begin in 2028.
As a result of this modernization, several Intercity (IC) lines will be rerouted. Stops such as Halle (Saale) and Leipzig/Halle Airport may be bypassed during this period. Additionally, S1 trains between Schönebeck and Wittenberge will be replaced by buses to accommodate the work.
The modernization work on Magdeburg's rail hub is expected to cause significant disruptions in train services next week. Commuters are advised to check their routes and allow for extra travel time. The upgrade is part of a larger project aiming to improve the city's rail infrastructure by late 2027.
