Main Station Area Development: Public Input Begins for Sustainable Neighborhood
Public participation has kicked off for the ambitious 'Main Station Area' development plan. The project aims to create a modern, sustainable, and livable neighborhood around the main station in the coming years.
The plan includes around 600 housing units, with 30% designated as affordable housing. Alongside residences, offices, gastronomy, commerce, social facilities, and two new daycare centers are also in the pipeline.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project. It features an ambitious mobility concept, bicycle parking facilities, and a focus on resource-efficient use of rainwater. A specific energy concept will also serve climate protection. Car parking spaces will be concentrated in neighborhood garages.
The architectural design project is led by the renowned studio Christ & Gantenbein from ETH Zurich. Planning documents can be viewed online and at info PCs in the Old Town Hall.
The Park Viewegs Garden will be expanded, offering new meeting points for citizens.
A public event to discuss the plans will take place on October 9th at 6 PM at BC III, Willy-Brandt-Platz 13, Ground Floor. The development of the 'Main Station Area' is expected to transform the neighborhood, providing a mix of housing, amenities, and green spaces, all with a strong focus on sustainability.
