Major Bob Place Honoured With Royal British Legion Gold Badge
Major Robert (Bob) Place MBE has been honoured with the Royal British Legion's Gold Badge for his exceptional voluntary service. The presentation took place at a ceremony hosted by Guernsey's Lieutenant-Governor Sir Richard Cripwell at Government House.
Major Place, who has dedicated 66 years to the military, including his 'boy service' from 1959, received the prestigious award from the National President of the Royal British Legion, Vice Admiral (Retd) Paul Bennett CB OBE. The Gold Badge is bestowed upon individuals who have served 'far beyond the call of duty'.
During his military career, Major Place served in Nepal assisting Gurkha veterans and in the Sultanate of Oman. His commitment to military veterans continued after his service, with his wife, Mrs Marlene Place, being awarded the BEM in 2022 for her services to military veterans in Guernsey. Major Place's dedication was recognised when he was made a Member of the British Empire for his work in Nepal.
Major Place's outstanding service has been recognised with the Royal British Legion Gold Badge. His dedication to the military and veterans spans six decades, with his work in Nepal and Guernsey making a significant impact. The Royal British Legion, through its Gold Badge, has honoured an individual who has gone above and beyond in his service.
