Major Disruptions Ahead: Anhalter Bahn Construction from Sept 24 to Dec 13
DB InfraGO will undertake major construction work on the Anhalter Bahn between Berlin Südkreuz and Halle (Bitterfeld) from September 24 to December 13, 2025. This will result in significant disruptions for commuters along this route.
The project involves the installation of 33 new switches and the repair of 59 existing ones. Approximately 100 kilometers of track will be completely renewed, with a further 38 kilometers being renovated. During this period, several regional lines in Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, including RE3, RE4, RE8, RB24, RB32, RB33, S2, and S8, will be replaced by buses.
Additional express buses with extra stops will run on some sections. However, the stops at Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Berlin Südkreuz will be omitted in long-distance traffic. The stretch between Berlin Südkreuz and Bitterfeld will be completely closed during this construction period. Long-distance trains will be rerouted, causing travel time extensions of 45 to 60 minutes between Leipzig/Halle (Saale) and Berlin.
Upon completion, the route will be 'construction-free' for three years. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly during the construction period, which is set to cause significant disruptions until December 13.
