Majority of Germans Reject Proposed Military Service Lottery
A majority of Germans, 60%, oppose the proposed news system for the new military service law, with only 21% supporting it. The controversial news model has sparked significant discontent among voters, particularly among the younger demographic and supporters of certain political parties.
The news system, proposed as part of the new conscription legislation, has faced strong opposition from various segments of the population. Among the youngest voters, aged 18 to 29, only 20% support the news model, while a substantial 50% reject it. This trend is echoed among Union supporters, with 59% opposing the proposal.
The political landscape reflects this divide. While CDU/CSU and SPD politicians have advocated for the news method, a significant portion of SPD voters, 64%, and FDP voters reject the random selection idea. This has led to a broad public majority opinion that tends to oppose the news system.
The proposed news system for the new military service law has encountered strong opposition from a majority of Germans. With only 21% supporting it, the government faces a challenge in implementing the controversial model. Meanwhile, 44% of Germans support the general reinstatement of conscription, while 38% prefer a voluntary basic service model, leaving 12% wanting neither.
