Malaysia Leads ASEAN Fight Against Corruption with Public-Private Partnerships
Malaysia, under the leadership of ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC), is taking significant steps to combat corruption and enhance governance. The country acknowledges that misunderstandings between the business community and the public sector can fuel negative perceptions of corruption, often due to weaknesses in governance systems.
In an effort to foster mutual understanding, ASEAN-PAC, under Malaysia's chairmanship, has established task forces to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors. These task forces aim to improve understanding of business and governance environments.
To further this goal, Malaysia will invite international experts to share insights and policy recommendations during the 21st ASEAN-PAC Principals Meeting. The country hopes to reach a consensus on action plans to effectively combat corruption.
Malaysia, as the current chair, is committed to promoting integrity through public-private partnerships. This approach extends beyond enforcement measures, aiming to strengthen governance frameworks and combat corruption perceptions not just in Malaysia, but across the entire ASEAN region.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will enhance its engagement with the private sector and regional experts to achieve these goals. Malaysia's aspiration to become a high-income nation by 2030 relies heavily on eradicating corruption and reforming laws and governance frameworks for institutional stability.
