Malaysia Police Ease Rules to Boost Non-Bumiputera Recruitment
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has relaxed recruitment rules to encourage more non-Bumiputera applicants. Changes include lower physical and academic standards for these candidates. The move aims to widen opportunities within the force, where non-Bumiputeras currently hold 5.55% of positions as of August 2023.
PDRM has removed specific quotas for Bumiputera or non-Bumiputera recruits, focusing instead on merit-based selection. Officials confirmed that the recruitment and promotion process remains free from racial or religious bias.
The revised requirements could lead to a more diverse police force over time. With merit-based selection and eased entry criteria, non-Bumiputeras now face fewer barriers to joining PDRM. The impact of these changes will become clearer as new recruits complete their training and enter service.
