Malaysian Father's Persistence Wins Son Malaysian Citizenship After 19-Year Struggle

After years of struggle, a Malaysian father, Go Wak How, has finally secured Malaysian citizenship for his son, Yu Liang, born in 2004 to an Indonesian mother. The joyous moment arrived in July 2023, following a long and arduous process. Wak How raised Yu Liang alone since birth, providing him with love, care, and education despite facing numerous challenges. Despite initial rejection by the Home Ministry, Wak How remained determined. He sought assistance from DAP Stampin to appeal the decision. To establish paternity, Wak How conducted a DNA test and ensured his name was on Yu Liang's birth certificate. Wak How's persistence paid off. In July 2023, Yu Liang's Malaysian citizenship application was approved. The father-son duo collected the citizenship documents at the National Registration Department, marking a significant milestone in their lives. Now, Yu Liang holds Malaysian citizenship by law and by heart. Go Wak How's relentless efforts have finally paid off, with Yu Liang now a Malaysian citizen. The duo can look forward to a future filled with new opportunities and a stronger sense of belonging.
