Malaysian minister hospitalized after weeks of relentless pre-CNY work

Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, has been hospitalised due to extreme fatigue. His admission came after weeks of intense work leading up to the Chinese New Year celebrations. Doctors have confirmed his condition is not serious but have advised rest.

The minister's heavy workload began 30 days before the Chinese New Year on 23 January 2026. Over the following weeks, his schedule remained demanding, eventually leading to his hospitalisation.

Sim announced on Facebook that he was admitted on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. While his family has not shared specific details about the cause, medical professionals attributed it to exhaustion. He has since been urged to take a short break to recover.

The minister's health scare follows a period of relentless work. Doctors have confirmed he is stable but requires rest before resuming duties. His hospital stay serves as a reminder of the physical toll of prolonged stress.
