Malaysia's SC and SSM Partner to Boost Funding for High-Growth Firms
The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) have signed a two-year agreement to share corporate data. The partnership aims to help unlisted companies with strong growth potential access funding through capital markets and alternative platforms.
Under the deal, the SC will analyse SSM's corporate data to pinpoint mid-sized and high-potential businesses in need of financing. These companies will then be connected to fundraising options, including Bursa Malaysia's ACE and LEAP Markets, as well as other alternative platforms.
The collaboration also includes joint monitoring to combat financial scams and improve tracking of sustainability disclosures. Knowledge-sharing and training in data analytics, sustainability reporting, and market insights form part of the initiative. SC Chairman Dato' Mohammad Faiz Azmi highlighted that the agreement would bolster enforcement efforts and investor protection. SSM Chief Executive Officer Datuk Nor Azimah Abdul Aziz added that the partnership would streamline the identification of promising companies and ease their access to capital market financing. Launched as part of the Capital Market Masterplan 2026–2030, the initiative aligns with the SC's five-year strategy to support MSMEs and mid-tier firms. However, since the masterplan's introduction on 12 March 2026, no mid-sized companies have yet been onboarded to alternative financing platforms through this collaboration.
The data-sharing agreement will run for two years, focusing on expanding capital market access and strengthening regulatory oversight. By linking high-potential businesses with funding opportunities, the SC and SSM aim to drive growth in Malaysia's mid-tier and MSME sectors.
