A 48-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend with a hammer in Bochum, Germany. The violent incident unfolded on Wednesday evening in the Wattenscheid district, leaving the 42-year-old woman hospitalised with head injuries. The attack began as a heated argument between the former couple on a sidewalk. Witnesses reported that the suspect suddenly drew a hammer and lunged at the woman, striking her repeatedly. Bystanders quickly intervened, stopping the assault before it escalated further.

The victim was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested the suspect at the scene and charged him with attempted manslaughter. A judge later issued a warrant for his pretrial detention. Authorities are now appealing for additional witnesses to come forward. They believe more accounts could help clarify the sequence of events leading up to the attack.

The woman remains in hospital recovering from her injuries. The suspect is in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. Investigators continue to gather evidence as part of the ongoing case.
