Man Arrested After Confronting Governor at May Day Rally in Yekaterinburg
A 42-year-old man from Orenburg Oblast was detained during a May Day rally in Yekaterinburg after trying to reach the region’s governor. Serik Taspakov ignored security protocols and used offensive language, leading to his arrest on charges of petty hooliganism. The incident unfolded on Repin Street, where Governor Denis Pasler attended the May Day celebrations. Taspakov attempted to push through the crowd and security to speak directly with Pasler. His aggressive behaviour and obscene language prompted officials to file an official report.
Security personnel detained Taspakov after he repeatedly disregarded warnings. A court later sentenced him to 14 days of administrative detention for his actions. Following the event, Governor Pasler instructed local authorities to provide Taspakov with legal assistance. The move came despite the man’s disruptive conduct during the rally.
Taspakov will serve a 14-day detention period as a result of the court’s ruling. The governor’s decision to offer legal support marks an unusual step in the case. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the man’s motives or background.
