Man Arrested After Violent Knife Attack on Mother and Partner in Dorsten
A 37-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning after a violent attack in Dorsten. Police responded to reports of an attempted homicide at a ground-floor apartment in the Feldmark district. The suspect allegedly assaulted his mother and her partner with a knife. The incident began at around 9:45 a.m. when the man, who has no fixed address, entered his 54-year-old mother's home through a window. Once inside, he physically attacked her before turning on her 59-year-old partner with a knife.
Police arrived quickly and apprehended the suspect at the scene. Both victims suffered injuries, but neither required emergency medical treatment for life-threatening wounds.
A homicide task force has now taken over the investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Drobe from Recklinghausen Police Headquarters is leading the case, while Senior Prosecutor Dr. Hüppe of the Essen Public Prosecutor's Office serves as the official contact. The suspect remains in custody as authorities continue their enquiries. The attack follows a wider trend of rising domestic violence cases in North Rhine-Westphalia, where crimes against women and girls have reached record levels. Further details on the investigation are expected in due course.
