SEK arrests armed man after attacking mother - Man Detained After Allegedly Attacking Mother and Barricading in Apartment
A 35-year-old man in Haßfurt, Lower Franconia, has been detained after allegedly attacking his mother and barricading himself in their apartment. The incident led to a police operation involving a special tactical unit, while residents of the building were evacuated for safety.
The confrontation began when the man reportedly tried to strangle his mother inside their shared home. She managed to escape with minor injuries before raising the alarm. Armed with a knife, the suspect then locked himself inside the apartment, prompting a police response.
Authorities deployed the SEK (special tactical unit) to handle the situation. Officers successfully apprehended the man without further violence or injuries. Following his arrest, he was placed in a forensic psychiatric facility on suspicion of attempted homicide.
Residents of the multi-family building were briefly evacuated as a precaution during the operation. The case will now be assessed under mental health laws, including the PsychKHG, which governs such incidents in Germany.
The suspect remains in psychiatric custody while investigations continue. His mother received treatment for minor injuries, and no other casualties were reported. Officials have not released broader statistics on similar cases, as they are processed individually under existing legal frameworks.
