Man dies by suicide after violent police confrontation in Wuppertal
A 31-year-old man died by suicide after violently resisting police in Wuppertal. The incident began on Thursday afternoon, December 11, 2025, when officers attempted to search his apartment on Wormser Straße. His struggle continued until he jumped from a balcony during the confrontation.
The encounter started when police spotted the man acting suspiciously near Brändströmstraße. He fled into a backyard, where officers caught up with him. An identity check revealed an outstanding arrest warrant against him.
The suspect fought back aggressively as police tried to detain him. Three male officers and one female officer were injured in the scuffle. A 24-year-old officer required hospital treatment and was later declared unfit for duty.
Despite efforts to de-escalate, the man kept resisting even as officers transported him toward the police station. He eventually broke free and jumped from a balcony, resulting in his death.
Authorities have since filed charges against the suspect. His name remains undisclosed in official reports.
