Man faces 15 years for shooting business partner after heated dispute
A 51-year-old man faces up to 15 years in prison for shooting his business partner three times after an argument. The trial heard claims that the killing was deliberate, with prosecutors describing it as a ruthless and targeted act. The accused admitted responsibility but insisted it was a spontaneous reaction to a heated dispute.
The incident unfolded following a disagreement over investments abroad. The defendant told the court he acted in a 'short-circuit reaction' during the confrontation. However, video evidence and witness accounts appeared to contradict his version of events.
Prosecutors argued that the final shot to the victim's head was deliberate and conclusive. They pushed for a murder conviction, calling the act planned and particularly brutal. The victim's family lawyer echoed this, demanding a guilty verdict for murder rather than manslaughter.
The defence, however, requested a reduced sentence of no more than 10 years for intentional homicide. They rejected the murder charge, insisting the killing was not premeditated. The accused himself expressed remorse in court, asking the victim's family for forgiveness.
The court dismissed calls to drop the charges entirely but also declined to escalate the case to premeditated murder. A verdict is now expected on Wednesday afternoon.
The trial centred on whether the killing was a spontaneous act or a calculated crime. Prosecutors relied on forensic evidence and witness statements to argue for a harsh sentence. The final decision will determine whether the defendant is convicted of murder or the lesser charge of intentional homicide.
