Man faces deportation after dramatic river escape attempt in Germany
A 35-year-old man was rescued from the Main River after jumping in to evade authorities. Police had earlier detained him for allegedly damaging a kiosk door and discovered he was likely living in Germany illegally. He now faces deportation after a court issued a detention order.
The incident began when the man was involved in a verbal argument on Ziegelstraße. He is accused of damaging a kiosk door before fleeing the scene. Officers later located him and took him to a police station for questioning.
During the investigation, authorities found evidence suggesting he was residing in the country without permission. As police moved to detain him, he jumped into the Main River in an attempt to escape. River police quickly pulled him from the water and rushed him to hospital for treatment. He was discharged shortly afterwards. A district court then issued a detention order for deportation. The man will stay in a correctional facility until his removal to his home country is arranged.
The man remains in custody while awaiting deportation. His failed escape attempt led to hospital treatment before his transfer to detention. Authorities confirmed no other individual matching his description and circumstances has been identified in recent records.
