A 50-year-old man from Goslar is currently on trial in the Braunschweig Regional Court, accused of setting his wife on fire while she slept. Despite the defendant's presumed innocence, the trial continues.
Prosecutors allege the man, driven by feelings of betrayal and malice, poured a mixture of gasoline and liquid barbecue lighter fluid on his wife. The woman was engulfed in flames and fell from their bedroom window, suffering severe burns. Their eldest son bravely extinguished the flames, but sadly, the woman later died from her injuries.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been in pretrial detention since the incident. The trial is ongoing, with the next hearing scheduled for Friday, November 7. A verdict is potentially expected in December.
