Mangut Village Honors Its Cossack Roots with Historic Monument

The village of Mangut, Kyrinsky District, has unveiled a monument commemorating the 298th anniversary of its founding. The 'Mangut Guard' monument, an initiative of local resident and historian Pavel Khaidukov, was solemnly unveiled on November 4, Unity Day, and later consecrated on November 12.

The monument, funded through personal contributions and efforts of Mangut residents and compatriots, features an inscription honouring the heroism of the Transbaikal Cossacks and key historical dates. It stands as a testament to the village's growth from a border outpost founded in 1727 to a stanitsa (Cossack village) with a population exceeding one thousand by 1917.

The unveiling ceremony was followed by a festive concert at the village's House of Culture, featuring local and district performing groups. The blessing ceremony was performed by Hieromonk Ioann (Kornev) of the Chita Diocese.

The Mangut Guard Monument serves as a symbol of unity and heritage for the village and its people. It stands as a reminder of the courage and resilience of the Transbaikal Cossacks who founded and protected Mangut over the centuries.
