Manitoba’s political feud erupts as Kinew and Khan clash over trans rights
The Manitoba legislature has seen days of heated clashes between the governing New Democrats and the Opposition Progressive Conservatives. Insults, personal attacks, and accusations of misconduct have dominated debates, leading to multiple interventions from Speaker Tom Lindsey.
Tensions flared when Premier Wab Kinew called Tory Leader Obby Khan a 'bigot' during a Transgender Day of Remembrance statement on 21 November 2025. Khan had remained seated while others stood, and Kinew criticised him for not condemning Alberta’s transgender legislation. The Tories later brought up Kinew’s criminal record in retaliation.
The repeated clashes have disrupted legislative work, with Speaker Lindsey acknowledging the chamber’s unprofessional conduct. No formal disciplinary action has been announced, but the exchanges have drawn public attention to the escalating hostility between the two parties.
