Mannheim Economic Forum Spotlights Dual-Use Strategy for Germany’s Resilience and Innovation

The 15th Mannheim Economic Forum, held at the Zeughaus of the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums, brought together around 150 invited guests. The event, hosted by the Lord Mayor of Mannheim and the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, focused on the 'Dual-Use Strategy' and its role in bolstering Germany's resilience and defense capabilities.

Lord Mayor Christian Specht kicked off the forum, stressing the importance of a resilience-driven economy in his opening remarks. The event welcomed the winners of the Mannheim Startup Award (MEXI), which recognizes innovative local businesses.

The winners were showcased in three categories: Technology, Services, and Impact. Replique, rightflow, and resourcly took home the awards, respectively. Resourcly, founded by Helena Most and Ian Draxten, had previously won the Impact category in 2024.

Marc Helmig, Head of Department at the German Security and Defence Industry Association (BDSV), emphasized the need for ongoing dialogue between procurement agencies and industry. This collaboration is crucial, especially in the current geopolitical climate that presents significant challenges for both policymakers and businesses.

The German government has launched an investment program to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. The Mannheim Economic Forum served as a platform to discuss this 'Dual-Use Strategy', which aims to leverage existing expertise for diversification.
