Marburg Marks 10 Years of Refugee Support at 'Portal Mauerstraße'

In Marburg, Germany, the 'Portal Mauerstraße' has marked a decade of supporting refugees. It began in 2015 at the Cappel camp, initially housing people in tents before wooden structures were built for the winter. The city and volunteers have celebrated a decade of solidarity and humanity.

The 'Portal Mauerstraße' started with the opening of the Hessian initial reception facility in Cappel in July 2015. As the winter approached, simple wooden houses replaced the tents. The portal moved to its current location at Mauerstraße 3 in March 2017, becoming a fixed part of Marburg's social infrastructure.

At the peak of engagement, over 1600 volunteers offered their support for refugee work in the camp and Marburg in general. These volunteers were thanked by Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies for their solidarity and humanity in helping refugees find a second home in Marburg. The city and volunteers celebrated ten years of this work in the town hall.

The 'Portal Mauerstraße' has evolved into an important place of support, integration, and dialogue. It began offering services to refugees from the Cappel camp and later opened the 'Portal Gisselberg' in January 2016. Councilwoman Kirsten Dinnebier thanked volunteers for giving hope and perspective to countless people in uncertain times.

The 'Portal Mauerstraße' has been a reliable hub for refugees in Marburg for the past ten years, providing support, integration, and dialogue. The city and volunteers have celebrated a decade of successful refugee work, with over 1600 volunteers contributing at the peak of engagement.
