Marcus Götz to lead CDU in 2027 North Rhine-Westphalia state elections
Marcus Götz has been chosen as the CDU's candidate for the 2027 state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. The nomination took place during a joint executive board meeting, where party members also backed other local candidates. Götz described the decision as a strong show of support and a personal honour.
The CDU's joint executive board gathered to finalise candidates for the upcoming state elections. Alongside Götz, Marcus Optendrenk was selected for Viersen II, while Britta Oellers will represent Tönisvorst and Krefeld. The meeting also focused on strengthening cooperation between municipalities ahead of the vote.
Götz later received unanimous backing at a separate CDU district conference in Nettetal. Party chairs highlighted his deep community ties and active local presence as key reasons for his nomination. Götz, who has served in the state parliament since 2022, currently represents Schwalmtal, Viersen, and Willich.
Götz will now campaign as the CDU's lead candidate for the 2027 state elections. His nomination follows a period of growing party support in the region. The CDU has also confirmed candidates for neighbouring districts, setting the stage for the upcoming race.
