Margareta Wolf Takes Patronage of Entrepreneurship Initiative

Margareta Wolf, Parliamentary State Secretary, has taken on the patronage of the Promoting Circle for Founding Research. This initiative, led by the Federal Ministry of Economics and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), has seen significant progress in promoting entrepreneurs among us in Germany.

Over the past three years, 42 entrepreneurship chairs have been established in collaboration with private companies and foundations. The DAAD has funded chairs in Oestrich-Winkel, Munich, Magdeburg, and Leipzig, among other locations. The initiative has been successful, with more universities recognizing the importance of self-employment in their curricula.

However, there are still challenges to overcome. The long-term financing of these chairs after initial sponsorship funds run out in 1-2 years is a pending issue. Additionally, while about half of first-year students express a desire to become self-employed, only 10% of graduates follow through five years later. There are also many unanswered questions and gaps in research regarding entrepreneurship in Germany.

To address these challenges, a communication platform, www.gruenderkontakte.net, has been launched to facilitate dialogue between companies and universities. The initiative aims to focus the curriculum more on entrepreneurship and self-employment, fostering a culture of innovation and self-reliance among graduates.
