Mario Leiter Re-elected SPÖ Vorarlberg Chairman with 71.53% Majority
Mario Leiter has been re-elected as party chairman of SPÖ Vorarlberg with a majority of 71.53 percent at the 45th regular state party conference. Federal chairman Andreas Babler was present to support Leiter.
Leiter's re-election comes after a mixed performance in the municipal council elections. While the party saw successes in Bregenz and Dornbirn, Leiter narrowly missed becoming the mayor of Bludenz, a position he had contested in 2015 and 2020. This result is a decrease from his previous election in 2023, where he received 88.69 percent approval.
Leiter had resigned from his position as deputy mayor of Bludenz in spring 2021 and stepped down as city party chairman in 2023. Despite these setbacks, he was confirmed as party chairman once again, with Reinhold Einwallner, Manuela Auer, Markus Faessler, Martin Staudinger, and Beatrix Madlener-Tonetti elected as vice-chairmen.
Leiter expressed pride in the 'clear result' of his re-election, acknowledging the challenges faced by the party. He promised to continue the ongoing realignment of SPÖ Vorarlberg. Andreas Babler, currently serving as Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister, supported Leiter's re-election.
