Markerstudy appoints ex-Admiral CFO Glen Ward as new financial chief
Markerstudy has named Glen Ward as its new group chief financial officer (CFO). He arrives from Admiral Insurance, where he held senior roles including group finance director and UK Insurance CFO. Ward will now report directly to chief executive Kevin Spencer.
Ward brings decades of experience in financial leadership. His career spans major firms such as Nationwide Building Society, National Australia Group Europe, and Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank. He also worked at KPMG and National Australia Bank Europe before joining Admiral.
His appointment follows the departure of interim CFO Keith Barber, who had filled the role since July 2022. Ward has stated his enthusiasm for supporting Markerstudy's growth plans and reinforcing its strategic goals.
Markerstudy has expanded rapidly in recent years. Between 2021 and 2025, the company achieved average annual premium growth of 20–25%, driven by acquisitions like Somerset Bridge and expansion in motor and home insurance. Its share of the motor insurance market climbed from around 2% in 2021 to over 4.5% by 2025, placing it among the UK's top 10 private motor insurers.
However, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has imposed restrictions on the company's growth. Regulators cited concerns over leadership structures, governance, and internal financial controls.
Ward takes on the CFO role at a critical time for Markerstudy. The company continues to grow but faces regulatory scrutiny over its operations. His financial expertise will be key as the firm addresses these challenges while maintaining its market position.
