Marktoberdorfer Parish Priest Oliver Rid Appointed New Dean
The Marktoberdorf deanery has appointed two new leaders to key roles. Oliver Rid, a 47-year-old priest from Babenhausen, will take over as dean on January 1, 2023. Frank Deuring, a 56-year-old priest from Memmingen, has been named associate dean of the same district.
Oliver Rid was ordained in 2008 after completing theological studies in Augsburg and Rome. Before this appointment, he worked as a chaplain at Augsburg’s Basilica of St. Ulrich and served as a youth minister across several deaneries. In 2018, he became the lead priest of the Marktoberdorf pastoral unit.
Frank Deuring has been a priest since 1999. His career includes leadership roles such as head of the Füssen pastoral unit and dean of Marktoberdorf from 2008 to 2020. The new dean, Rid, succeeds the late Werner Haas, who himself followed Josef Stimpfle—dean from 1985 until Haas took over in 2008. The dean acts as the bishop’s representative in the area. Responsibilities include advocating for local concerns and coordinating pastoral activities across the deanery. Rid’s term officially begins at the start of next year.
Rid’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Marktoberdorf deanery. He will lead alongside Deuring, who brings decades of experience to the associate dean role. Both priests will work to support the region’s pastoral and administrative needs.
