Marktoberdorf's new council blends experience with fresh political voices
Marktoberdorf's newly elected town council will begin its work in May. The latest vote, held on 8 March 2026, brought in fresh faces while retaining experienced members. Among them is Wolfgang Hannig, who has served on the council for 24 years and is now starting his fifth term. The election results show a shift in representation. Three seats now belong to parties or independent candidates elected for the first time, including the Grünen, who secured three positions. These newcomers will join returning members when the council officially convenes next month.
Wolfgang Hannig remains a key figure in local politics. As the longest-serving councillor, he has held his seat since 2002 and is now entering another six-year term. Beyond the town council, he also serves as a district councillor for Marktoberdorf. Additionally, he holds the role of deputy mayor, balancing multiple responsibilities within the community.
The new council will take office with a mix of experience and new perspectives. Hannig's continued presence, alongside the three first-time representatives, sets the stage for the next legislative period. The council's first meetings in May will mark the start of its work under the updated political landscape.
