New figures show a slight drop in both marriages and divorces across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2024. Official records reveal shifts in long-term trends, including a notable rise in same-sex separations. The data also highlights how divorce timelines and family situations have evolved in the region.

A total of 8,569 couples married in the state last year, down from 8,633 in 2023. Meanwhile, divorces fell marginally to 2,436, a decrease of 49 cases compared to the previous year.

The latest figures confirm a gradual decline in overall marriages and divorces, though same-sex separations have risen significantly. With more than half of divorces involving children, the data underscores the ongoing impact on families in the region. The trends also reflect how relationship recognition laws continue to shape divorce statistics.
