Martin Berbig takes helm of Waldeck-Frankenberg Police Directorate
Martin Berbig has officially assumed charge of the Waldeck-Frankenberg Police Directorate, replacing Dirk Bartoldus who had been acting head since April 2025. Police leaders have welcomed this news, highlighting Berbig's extensive experience in law enforcement. Berbig began his police career in 2002, working in various units across North Hesse, including service with the Kassel riot police and the SEK (special operations unit). Over time, he took on several leadership positions within the North Hesse Police Headquarters. Dirk Bartoldus, the outgoing acting head, now moves to a new role leading the Traffic Safety and Special Services Directorate in Baunatal. Bartoldus, who is married with two adult sons, previously held several senior posts in the same regional headquarters. Outside work, he enjoys sports and gardening. Police President Marco Bärtl spoke positively about Berbig's appointment, calling him highly capable and expressing enthusiasm for their future collaboration. Berbig has set clear goals for his new position, with a focus on expanding prevention programmes to strengthen safety measures for residents across the district. Berbig now leads the Waldeck-Frankenberg directorate from his home in the neighbouring Schwalm-Eder district, with his experience in specialised units and leadership roles shaping his approach to the job. Meanwhile, Bartoldus transitions to his new duties in Baunatal, continuing his career in traffic and special services.
