Martina Klement takes helm as Brandenburg's new Economics Minister

Martina Klement has been named Brandenburg's new Minister of Economics. The appointment marks a major shift in her career, moving from Berlin's State Secretary for Digitalization to a senior role in Brandenburg. Her new position will oversee economic affairs, energy, climate protection, and European policy across the state.

Klement officially took office on March 15, 2026. Before this, she served as Berlin's State Secretary for Digitalization since 2023. She had no prior experience in Brandenburg's government or its economic and energy sectors.

Her departure leaves a gap in Berlin's ongoing administrative reform. Although the reform was approved, its implementation remains unfinished. Berlin now faces the challenge of replacing her leadership in digital policy. In her new role, Klement gains broader authority and a higher salary. The position places her at the centre of Brandenburg's economic and environmental strategies.

Klement's move strengthens Brandenburg's economic and energy leadership. Her absence, however, disrupts Berlin's digital and administrative reforms. The transition reshapes responsibilities in both regional governments.
