Martina Neusinger shatters 63-year tradition as Sonthofen's first female mayor

Martina Neusinger has made history in Sonthofen by becoming the town's first female mayor. The 55-year-old candidate won the runoff election with a clear majority, marking a significant change after 63 years of male leadership in the role.

Neusinger, representing the Free Voters' Association, secured 63.6 percent of the vote in the election. Her opponent, Klaus Erbersdobler from the CSU, received 36.4 percent. The result was announced following a competitive campaign.

Her victory was confirmed after a podcast on 15 March 2026 had first introduced her as a candidate. The election process led to her taking over from outgoing mayor Christian Wilhelm.

Neusinger's win sets a new precedent for Sonthofen's local government. She will now lead the town as its first woman in the position. The election results reflect strong public support for her candidacy.
