Masked thieves steal high-end e-mountain bikes in daring Neuwied heist
A bike shop in Neuwied was targeted by thieves in the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026. Masked intruders broke in around 02:20 a.m. and stole several high-end e-mountain bikes. Police later spotted the suspects' getaway vans on the A61 motorway near Koblenz, leading to a chase and the recovery of all stolen items.
The break-in occurred at a shop on Allensteiner Straße, where at least three masked individuals took 'several' expensive e-mountain bikes. The exact number remains unclear, but police confirmed the theft involved high-value models.
Officers later identified the suspects' white vans travelling on the A61 motorway. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the thieves fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. The abandoned vans, which had been stolen earlier in Ludwigshafen, were found with all the stolen bicycles still inside.
Both the vans and the bikes were seized for forensic examination. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist the investigation.
The stolen bicycles were fully recovered after the suspects abandoned them during their escape. Police continue to search for the perpetrators, who remain at large. Witnesses with details about the crime are encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
