Massachusetts teen arrested after admitting to fatal home invasion

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Danvers, Massachusetts, after a woman was found dead in her home. Anthony DeMayo now faces homicide charges following the killing of 68-year-old Janet Swallow. Police report that he admitted to breaking into her house with the intent to kill someone.

The incident began when DeMayo allegedly forced his way into Swallow's home through a window. Witnesses later spotted him walking with a bloody knife before officers took him into custody. Investigators confirmed that there was no prior relationship between the suspect and the victim.

After searching DeMayo's residence, police discovered Swallow's body at her own home. Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances leading to her death. DeMayo will now undergo a mental evaluation to assess whether he is fit to stand trial. The case adds to a broader pattern of violent crime in the Boston area, where roughly 150 suspects have been arrested or charged over the past five years in similar incidents. Major operations, including the Boston Police Department's *Operation Ceasefire* in 2023 (45 arrests) and FBI raids in 2024 (over 60 indictments in Dorchester and Roxbury), have targeted violent crime and gang activity.

The investigation into Swallow's death remains ongoing. DeMayo's mental competency hearing will determine the next steps in the legal process. Meanwhile, local law enforcement continues to address violent crime through targeted operations in the region.
