Massive police operation in Kempten leaves one man critically injured
A major police operation unfolded in Kempten's Bühl district on March 16. Emergency services, including SWAT teams, firefighters and paramedics, descended on the area before noon. Authorities later confirmed no wider danger to the public existed despite the heavy presence.
The operation began in the late morning, prompting police to cordon off streets and order evacuations for nearby residents. Multiple patrol cars, an ambulance fleet and specialist units filled the neighbourhood, causing lengthy traffic delays.
A 63-year-old man was seriously injured during the incident and carried to an ambulance on a stretcher around noon. Paramedics rushed him to hospital in critical condition. By 2:30 p.m., the situation remained active, with criminal investigators from Kempten's Kripo arriving to take charge. Roadblocks were gradually removed as the afternoon progressed, allowing displaced residents to return home. The investigation into the circumstances of the man's injuries is now being led by Kripo detectives.
The injured man remains under medical care after the operation's conclusion. Traffic in Bühl returned to normal once police cleared the final roadblocks. Authorities have not yet released further details about the nature of the investigation.
