Twin House Burns in Stralsund - Massive Stralsund duplex fire leaves €300,000 in damages and two homes ruined
A severe roof fire in Stralsund has left both halves of a duplex uninhabitable. The blaze broke out on Friday evening, causing extensive damage estimated at around €300,000. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The fire started in the attic of the semi-detached property, quickly spreading to the adjacent half of the building. Firefighters worked for roughly three hours before bringing the flames under control. During the operation, a 66-year-old woman was rescued with minor injuries.
The attic was completely destroyed, and the entire structure is now deemed unsafe for residents. Unlike previous incidents in the region, this fire stands out due to its scale. Over the past five years, Stralsund and the wider Vorpommern area have recorded no major blaze with comparable damage—most fires involved limited property loss under €100,000.
The incident has left both sides of the duplex unfit for habitation. Investigators continue to examine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown. The €300,000 in damages marks one of the most significant property losses from a fire in the area in recent years.
