MDR Presenter Running for 'The Left' in Saxony-Anhalt State Election
MDR radio host Antonia Kaloff has announced her candidacy for the Left Party in Saxony-Anhalt’s 2026 state election. This marks her first step into politics after a long career in broadcasting. Kaloff, born in Halle (Saale) in 1972, has spent over two decades as a well-known voice on MDR Sachsen-Anhalt.
Kaloff worked at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) since 2002, most recently hosting the morning show MDR Sachsen-Anhalt – Mein Radio. Mein Zuhause. She left the station in December 2025 to focus on her political campaign. Her decision to run comes without any prior party affiliation, making this her first formal political involvement.
The Left Party’s co-leaders, Eva von Angern and Hendrik Lange, have welcomed her candidacy. They highlighted her deep media experience and ability to connect with everyday concerns. Kaloff’s campaign will centre on defending democracy, promoting social justice, and pushing for fairer policies, with a strong focus on rural communities.
Kaloff’s shift from radio to politics brings a new perspective to the Left Party’s 2026 campaign. Her long-standing public profile and focus on local issues could shape her approach in the upcoming election. The party has positioned her as a candidate with both media savvy and grassroots appeal.
