Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania EOD Marks 75 Years of Protecting Region from WWII Munitions

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD). For seven decades, this dedicated team has ensured the safety of the region by carefully managing the threat posed by thousands of tons of unexploded World War munitions buried in forests, fields, and the Baltic Sea.

The EOD's work is particularly crucial in ports and coastal areas where ordnance is frequently discovered. The team's precision, courage, and sense of responsibility have been instrumental in maintaining security for the people of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Notable hotspots include two properties at the former airbase Trollenhagen, the former command center in Lübtheen, a former munitions depot in Güstrow/Devwinkel, and a site in Schwerin-Görries. EOD personnel, known for their great care, expertise, and unwavering discipline, have been deployed countless times to recover and neutralize these dangerous remnants of war, often under life-threatening conditions. Their tireless dedication and professionalism have been commended by Interior Minister Christian Pegel, who expressed gratitude for their dedicated work over the years.

As the EOD service celebrates its 75th anniversary, the people of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can take comfort in knowing that these brave individuals stand ready to protect them from the ongoing threat posed by unexploded ordnance. Their unwavering commitment to safety and security is a testament to the region's resilience and commitment to a peaceful future.
