Mediaset España appoints Mario Rodríguez Valeras as new president amid media evolution

Mediaset España has named Mario Rodríguez Valeras as its new president. He takes over from Cristina Garmendia, who led the company for over eight years before stepping down. The change comes as the broadcaster continues to adapt to shifting media trends while maintaining its position as Spain's top private TV group.

Cristina Garmendia announced her departure after a period of reflection, stating it was time for a new professional chapter. During her tenure, she emphasised the company's strength as part of MFE-MediaForEurope and its role as a leader in Spain's audiovisual sector. Despite declining traditional TV audiences, Mediaset España expanded into digital platforms like Mediaset Play, acquired stakes in regional broadcasters such as EITB, and formed partnerships in streaming and content production.

Mario Rodríguez Valeras, who joined Mediaset España in 1998, brings decades of experience to the role. He has held key positions, including Corporate Director General and Head of Institutional Relations. His career highlights include overseeing the company's stock market debut, the acquisition of Cuatro, and the growth of its broadcasting portfolio.

Rodríguez Valeras has also represented Mediaset España in regulatory and industry discussions, giving him a strong grasp of the sector's evolving landscape. His appointment follows a long history of leadership within the company, ensuring continuity as it navigates changes in media consumption.

The transition marks a new phase for Mediaset España under Rodríguez Valeras' leadership.
