Meet Maro Coffee: Friends Revolutionize Semi-Automatic Machines
Max Grimm and Robin Kuprat, childhood friends with a shared passion for coffee, have launched Maro Coffee. Their semi-automatic espresso machine aims to improve upon traditional models, offering shorter heating times, consistent temperatures, and reduced energy consumption. However, their journey hasn't been without challenges.
Grimm and Kuprat began by tinkering with semi-automatic espresso machines, seeking to enhance their efficiency. They received support from Jürgen John, founder of Profektus in Suhl, who provided them with a workspace, tools, and funds for components. Initially, they bought two espresso machines, but both presented issues. One was overly complex to operate, while the other was defective due to a small amount of limescale causing problems.
Undeterred, the duo created a prototype named 'Frankenstein'. This model offered more stable heating and better espresso program control. They also developed the Maro Coffee machine, featuring a display and three brewing modes for consistent coffee taste. However, they initially misjudged their target audience, attracting more older gentlemen than expected, and away from fully automatic espresso machines.
Grimm and Kuprat assembled and shipped the first 60 espresso machines themselves before hiring employees to establish continuous production in Leipzig.
Maro Coffee's semi-automatic espresso machine promises improved efficiency and consistency. Despite early challenges and missteps in targeting their audience, Grimm and Kuprat have persevered, with support from Jürgen John. Their espresso machine is now in production, offering coffee enthusiasts a new option for a better brew.
